Armed Criminal Group Led by Egianus Kogoya Carried Out 65 Acts of Violence in 5 Years: Police

The Chief of Papua Regional Police Inspector General Mathius Fakhiri stated that the Armed Criminal Group (KKB) led by Egianus Kogoya need to cease any further actions that could induce fear among the community. He emphasized that it is the responsibility of the security forces and the local leaders to take the initiative to engage in dialogue and establish communication with the Kogoya group.

“As the Chief of Papua Regional Police, I assert that I will not give space to KKB who often disrupt the development process in Papua,” he said.

Papua Regional Police reported that from 2017 to 2023 the Kogoya group has committed 65 crimes, consisting of 31 shooting incidents, 16 shootouts, 8 attacks, 3 massacres, and 2 arson incidents.

Moreover, the group’s involvement in heinous crimes such as murder, rape, assault, threat, and kidnapping of a pilot has raised serious alarms for the authorities, which demonstrates the extent of the violence and destruction that Kogoya group have inflicted upon the region.
