Police Returns Displaced Residents of Maybrat Regency Safely

Tribratanews.polri.go.id – Papua. After 20 months of displacement, the refugees from Asmat Village and Kamat Ayata Village in Maybrat Regency have returned to their villages with the assistance of the Operation Petik Bintang Task Force of West Papua Regional Police. The operation was led by Police Senior Superintendent Novia Jaya, the Head of Regional Operation of Operation Petik Bintang Task Force, and Glenn Rooi Molle, the Chief of Maybrat Sub-Regional Police, on April 13, 2023.

“They are returning to their hometown after being displaced for one year and eight months of refuge due to the assault of the Armed Criminal Group (KKB). They expressed their happiness because today they can return to their village safely, well, and sound,” said Police Senior Superintendent Novia Jaya.

She stated that the operation will be carried out gradually.

“We have repaired the bridge that has been damaged by the KKB and built a Security Post in Ayata village as well. This is the embodiment of the state’s presence among the community so that they are not afraid and can resume their activities,” she said.

The Head of the Maybrat Housing Department, who is also a community figure in Great East Aifat, Zakheus Momao expressed his gratitude to the police who have willing to help the residents of the two villages.
