Tribratanews.polri.go.id - Padang. West Sumatra Police Chief Inspector General Teddy Minahasa Putra, encouraged the West Sumatra Provincial Government (Pemprov) to develop the potential for culture-based tourism.

The West Sumatra Regional Police Chief sees that this potential has not been fully exploited by the West Sumatra Provincial Government.

"Most of the tourist in visiting West Sumatra is just to see Jam Gadang which is a Dutch heritage, than to Tanah Datar which is the cultural center of West Sumatra," explained the West Sumatra Police Chief.

According to the West Sumatra Police Chief, the West Sumatra Provincial Government's homework is to promote Minangkabau culture which has to become one of the main reasons of tourist in visiting West Sumatra. It can be done by shifting the focus of the destination from tourism based on natural beauty to culture.

"West Sumatra has a long culture and history. This should be widely introduced and become the focus of tourists," explained the West Sumatra Police Chief.

The man with the title of Tuanku Bandaro Alam Sati saw that the Pagaruyung Kingdom had a long history related to handicrafts on the island of Java. Many artifacts and cultural values that actually have an appeal to West Sumatra.

"Why did Pagaruyung lose to natural and tourist destinations in Bukittinggi. The big task is how to develop the tourism sector strategy," concluded the West Sumatra Police Chief.
