Chief of Yapen Islands Departmental Police, Police Grand Commissioner Ferdyan Indra Fahmi, in the press conference at his office in the front of mass media, confirmed that personnel of Mobile Brigade of Papua Regional Police enforce the law at the Sasawa village, West Yapen district, Yapen Islands regency, at 10.30 local time on Thursday (5/8/2021).
He also said the law enforcement is based on analysis and occurrences that happened in recent times.
"The actions and occurrences have been investigated, and witnesses are interrogated, including close network monitoring. We confirmed that the Armed Criminal Group (KKB) conducts as the perpetrator of the criminal actions under the control of a person claimed to be Commander of 2nd/Saireri Region of TPNPB (West Papua National Liberation Army), Fernando Worabai, and his associates", he said.
The criminal act or any said offences that ignite anxiety and disturbance of public security and order have happened many times. The motif is to show the existence of this group, which claimed to be part of the resistance movement that wants to separate from the Republic of Indonesia.
"Their struggle form is through militant way to disturb the community, messing up public security for many times, and inciting anxiety within the community. Some information claims that they disturb the regional government's activity", Chief of Yapen Islands Departmental Police said.
According to him, these occurrences cannot be allowed by the Police, as the law enforcer of the Yapen Islands region. Therefore, Police decided to go to their headquarter to conduct law enforcement. When the Police arrived, some members of the group was there conducting activities with their long-barreled firearms.
"After we investigate and enforce the law at the crime scene, the KKB members ran away. The Police personnel then discovered three illegal homemade firearms and other evidence such as two LPG gas cylinders designated as homemade bomb as the form of resistance", Chief of Departmental Police said.
According to the Chief of Departmental Police, in August, which coincides with the Indonesian Independence Anniversary month, there are indications and information that the group wants to sabotage and conducted other things that may disturb security stability.
"We do not want to miss it. We immediately anticipate and take measures so that their plans or targets on August 17 could be anticipated so we could eliminate and stop them", he added.
He said that there are many reports of law violations from threats, persecution, blackmail, and illegal ownership of firearms and explosive materials. The perpetrators would be subjected to conventional law or general crime, including Emergency Law No. 12 of 1951 about Firearms and Explosive Materials.
"I, representing security officers of the region, would chase related parties and the most responsible figure: Fernando Worabai. We declared him as the suspect and put him on the wanted list. We will find the group until they are arrested; the suspect would be subjected to applicable law", Police Grand Commissioner Ferdyan Indra Fahmi said.
Besides, the Chief of Departmental Police said that Police would also guarantee safety to the community and religious, community, and traditional figures to massively inform the public to marginalise the group and not to afraid to report accurate information to the Police or security officers.
"For the ones who surrender, we will appreciate them. However, if their names are on the wanted list, we will enforce the law on them", he said.
