The Chief of Indonesian National Police's Direction to West Sumatra Regional Leadership Communication Forum: Maintain Health Protocols Until Acceleration of Vaccination for the Elderly

Tribratanews.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Chief of Indonesian National Police, Police General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, emphasized that the discipline of implementing health protocols (prokes) must be carried out or not be slack. However, the daily number of Covid-19 has now decreased drastically.

This was conveyed by Sigit while chairing a meeting with the Commander of the Indonesian Armed Forces, Marshal Hadi Tjahjanto, with the West Sumatra Regional Leadership Communication Forum (Forkopimda) at the Governor's Office House, Padang, Wednesday (11/3/2021).

"Currently, in the West Sumatra region, there are many level reductions. However, this means that there is leeway in lowering levels, so the progress is being ignored. This must be reminded," said Sigit in his directive.

According to the Chief former of Banten Regional Police, the development of daily active coronavirus cases in West Sumatra has indeed decreased. However, in some areas, it is still relatively high.

Regarding the Covid-19 death case, Sigit said there must be a vaccination strategy for the elderly group. Given the people who are victims of the coronavirus, many of whom are elderly. Therefore, Sigit emphasized accelerating the vaccination of the elderly group.

"Of course, special steps need to be taken, those who die are usually of vulnerable age or the elderly, this must be considered a vaccination strategy for people who have a Covid-19 vulnerability. Of the 131 regencies/cities that rose, eight regencies/cities in West Sumatra also increased. So please pay attention not to increase, and clusters occur," said Sigit.

By not ignoring the health protocols and accelerating vaccinations, said Sigit, this is also an anticipatory effort to prevent the growth rate of Covid-19 during the 2021 Christmas and 2022 New Year (Nataru) holidays.

"There will be risks, especially when dealing with Nataru, who usually faces people doing their activities. From every holiday, there is an increase," said the Chief former of Criminal Investigation Agency of the Indonesian National Police.

On the other hand, Sigit appealed to West Sumatra Regional Leadership Communication Forum not to hold any events that could potentially trigger a crowd. Instead, Sigit suggested that the activities were better held virtually or online.

"So that hybrid or virtual activities are better. Tourist attractions, please install the PeduliLindung application," said Sigit.

Sigit said that the synergy and solidity of the Indonesian National Armed Forces, Indonesian National Police, Provincial Government, religious leaders and community leaders must continue to be strengthened. According to him, this factor is one of the keys to the current Covid-19 control strategy. Moreover, Indonesia ranks first in Southeast Asia in terms of handling and controlling the coronavirus.

Therefore, Sigit emphasized, this positive trend must be maintained. Because, said Sigit, President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has always emphasized ignoring or neglecting to prevent a spike in Covid-19 with health protocols discipline and accelerated vaccination.

On the other hand, the Commander and Chief of Indonesian National Police also expressed their appreciation for the West Sumatra Regional Leadership Communication Forum related to the acceleration of vaccination because they had initiated the West Sumatran Vaccine Awareness (Sumdarsin) in Minang land (Tanah Minang). However, in the future, it should be further improved.

"Regarding the progress of the vaccinations carried out, Alhamdulillah, the progress has been seen from last week in position 32, currently in position 24-26. So I think this is the result of the hard work of Regional Leadership Communication Forum colleagues and the vaccination team. In this case, I appreciate it together with the Commander," he said. Sigit.

Not only chairing the Regional Leadership Communication Forum meeting, the Commander and the Chief of Indonesian National Police directly observed the simultaneous vaccination activities of West Sumatra Vaccine Awareness (Sumdarsin) at H. Agus Salim Sport Centre, Padang, West Sumatra. The event was carried out simultaneously at 221 points location.

On that occasion, the two of them also took the time to virtually greet other areas in West Sumatra to hear firsthand the handling and control of Covid-19.
