During January – May 2021, Indonesia National Police Has Successfully Arrested 217 Terrorist Suspects in Indonesia

inp.polri.go.id – Jakarta. During January to May 2021, the Indonesian National Police has succeeded in arresting 217 terrorist suspects in Indonesia. The Chief of Indonesian National Police, Police General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, in the House of Representative of Republic of Indonesia (DPR RI) Commission III meeting said 209 [terrorist suspect] were in the process of being investigated and measured decisive action was taken for the other 8 suspects, Wednesday (06/16/21).

Former Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit of Indonesia National Police said after the suicide bombing at Makassar Cathedral Church on Sunday (03/28), Indonesia National Police had arrested 108 suspects in 8 provinces.

The Chief of Indonesia National Police said apart from implementing strict law enforcement, the Indonesia National Police also prioritized soft approaches to counter intolerance and radicalism.

"Mainstreaming religious moderation must be put forward by building cooperation with all mass organizations in Indonesia, especially religious organizations and working with all stakeholders to strengthen [religious moderation]," the Chief of Indonesia National Police explained.

Further, the Chief of Indonesia Police National said Indonesia National Police had visited number of religious organizations, both at the central, provincial, and regency/city levels.

In addition, the Indonesia National Police also opened communication room with terrorism prisoners (napiter) to change their way of thinking in order to return to support the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI).

"We have implemented these programs both inside the detention center and by involving former terrorism prisoner to implement activities outside the detention center because they are the ones who know better whom they should talk to," the Chief of Indonesia National Police explained.

The Chief of Indonesia National Police added the Indonesia National Police are also working with Ministry of Communication and Information to reduce content in cyberspace that contains the ideas against NKRI.
