Tribratanews.polri.go.id – Jakarta. The Public Relations Division of Indonesian National Police (INP) held a meeting with digital media practitioners in Jakarta on Tuesday (14/3/23) to encourage their participation in maintaining peacefulness and stability ahead of the 2024 general election.

“The initiative to bring together digital media practitioners, INP’s influencer partners, and social media activists is an essential step for consolidating and coordinating efforts in the digital media field,” said Brigadier General Gatot Repli Handoko, who represented the Head of Public Relations Division of INP.

He further explained that the the initiative is to ensure that all Indonesian citizens receive accurate information, thus fostering an awareness to accept and utilize the information available online. This is particularly crucial this year, as the dynamics of Indonesian society are expected to heat up as the 2024 election approaches.

He cited the statement of Ang Peng Hwa, Director of the Singapore Internet Research Center at Nanyang Technological University, that the country poses a significant challenge due to scale of coverage, duration, campaign period, and diverse cultural backgrounds of Indonesian citizens.

Through this meeting, he also expressed his hope that the INP can maintain and foster a good relationship with the digital media community.

“INP plays a vital role in anticipating and mitigating the potential negative impacts and frictions in digital media. We hope that the peaceful digital environment ahead of the general election can be realized,” he concluded.
