Tribratanews.polri.go.id - Papua. Chief of Papua Regional Police, Police Inspector General Mathius D Fakhiri visited refugee location of Yalimo riot, Papua. In the occassion, Chief of Papua Regional Police expressed his apology of the riot incident in Yalimo.
The visit took place on Tuesday, July 6, 2021 at Tongkonan Hall, Wamena, Jayawijaya Regency. The hall is known for Yalimo refugee shelter.
On that occasion, Chief of Papua Regional Police greeted the refugees. He also expressed his apology regarding the riot incident.
"I, as the leader of Indonesia National Police in Papua, apologise for the burning incident occurred some time ago, that we did not expect in Elelim Yalimo. Many migrants had to lose their homes and businesses in the incident," Police Inspector General Mathius said in his written statement to reporters, Wednesday (7/7/2021).
Police Inspector General Mathius said that his party has evaluated the incident. The goal is to prevent similar incident from happening again in the future.
"Of course we will prepare everything more optimal so that in the future no similar burning incident will happen again,” Chief of Papua Regional Police said.
Regarding the riot incident, Police Inspector General Mathius said his party had given ultimatum to the supporters of the two candidates. They strictly mentioned the same incident should not be happened again.
"I have advised to the two candidates not to repeat this burning incident," Chief of Papua Regional Police said.
As it is known, the burning of buildings in Yalimo Regency occurred yesterday afternoon. This incident began when Constitutional Court's decision was issued which stated the candidate number 1 was disqualified.
The angry supporters then burned down number of buildings. The buildings that were burned included General Election Commission (KPU) office, Election Supervisory Body (Bawaslu), Integrated Law Enforcement Center (Gakkumdu), Regional People's Representative Council (DPRD), Health Agency, Community and Family Empowerment Agency (BPMK), Transportation Agency and Bank Papua.
