Tribratanews.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Police keep going on to eradicate thuggery and extortion. Until the end of June 2021, Police has been handled 9,875 cases of thuggery and extortion.
"From the 9,875 cases, 26,631 people are declared as a suspect", Chief of the 5th Subdirectorate of General Criminal Act Directorate of Criminal Investigation Agency of Indonesian National Police, Police Grand Commissioner Rizal Irawan, in a Polri Presisi's broadcast titled "Eradicating Thuggery and Extortion" on Tuesday (6/7).
Chief of the Subdirectorate explained that out of 26,361 suspects, 19,759 are from thuggery and 6,602 from extortion cases. The law enforcement types subjected to them, Chief of the Subdirectorate said, are varied from restorative justice to the court level.
"4,810 suspects are continued to the court, while 21,551 suspects are subjected to restorative justice or education", Chief of the Subdirectorate said.
According to the Chief of the Subdirectorate, suspects subjected to law enforcement are subjected to Article 368 and 369 of the Indonesian Criminal Code. Meanwhile, case settlement by restorative justice will consider their role in the extortion and thuggery practice.
"Some people made it for a living, they have been detained previously, but they are caught again. This case is not subjected to restorative justice. It is straight to the court", the Chief of the Subdirectorate said.
Chief of the Subdirectorate explained that the case settlement method of restorative justice is in accordance with the instruction of the Chief of Police, Listyo Sigit Prabowo, that delivered from a telegram letter signed by the Chief of Police's Operation Assistant No. 463 of 2021. The Chief's telegram letter then later followed up by the Chief of Criminal Investigation Agency, General Commissioner Agus Andrianto, by issuing telegram letter No. 18 of 2021, in which the primary function task of the Police in handling the thuggery and extortion case through three actions: preemptive, preventive, and repressive.
"The telegram letter from the Chief of Police's Operation Assistant includes those three follow-ups such as preemptive, preventive, and repressive actions. Meanwhile, Chief of Criminal Investigation Agency emphasise on the law enforcement", he said.
Efforts to eradicate thuggery and extortion are massively in operation by Police personnel after President Joko Widodo called the Chief of Police during a dialogue with truck drivers in Tanjung Priok Harbour, North Jakarta, Thursday (10/6).
