Karangasem Bali Rocked by Earthquake, 34 Houses Reported to Have Been Damaged

After the earthquake that rocked Karangasem Regency, Bali, the regional government ensured that until Wednesday (12/14), there have been 34 houses that have been damaged by the earthquake that occured on Tuesday, 20:38 local time.

The damaged have been identified in several regencies, such as in Kubu, Manggis, Karangasem, Rendang, and Bebandem Regency.

Other than the damages, Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Karangasem also reported two denizen who suffered injuries due to the earthquake that epicentered 23 km of Karangasem’s northeast. One of the victims suffered a burn injury after he got showered by hot water due to panic. The two victims currently are being treated at Karangasem Health Center.

Quoted from bnpb.go.id, until today (12/14), BPBD officials are still collecting the data and monitor the locations. Aftershock have been identified 21 times with a magnitude of 4.5.

According to the analysis of Meteorology Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), the earthquake was due to the Flores Back Arc Thrust. Seeing from the mechanism analysis, there have been a rising mechanism.

BNPB implores local government and its community to always be vigilant ahead of upcoming afterchock, because it could not be predicted and could happen anytime. People are also urged to check their house before entering it.
