The Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) reported the activity of Mount Semeru in Lumajang on Friday (9/12/22) from 00:00 – 06:00 WIB.
Mount Semeru, which has been in Alert status (level IV) since Sunday (4/12/22), until 06:00 WIB Friday (12/9) morning, has erupted 24 times and the main crater is releasing white smoke as high as 300 meters from the top.
PVMBG officer, Mukdas Sofian, A.Md., explained that white smoke from the main crater of Mount Semeru was visible based on visual observations.
"It was observed that smoke from the main crater was white with medium-high intensity around 100-300 meters from the summit. The weather was cloudy, the wind was weak to the north," said Mukdas Sofian in his report.
It was also reported that the eruption triggered 24 earthquakes around Mount Semeru. In addition to earthquakes caused by eruptions, there were also 1 fall earthquake, 7 gust earthquakes, and 3 shallow volcanic earthquakes.
