The incident of a kidnapping of Susi Air pilot Phillip Mehrtens by the Armed Criminal Group (KKB) led by Egianus Kogoya has caused concern among the local community leaders, including the Head of Jayapura Red and White Front (Barisan Merah Putih Jayapura), Reverend Niko Mauri.
Reverend Niko Mauri, who’s also a religious figure in Papua, urged the Armed Criminal Group (KKB) to release the pilot immediately. He underlined the critical role of the pilot in providing essential services to the people of Papua.
Amidst the fear and uncertainty among the local community, he also urged the people of Nduga district to remain calm and not be swayed by misleading information in order to ease the situation, while emphasizing the vital role of the law enforcement apparatus.
“We leave the entire law enforcement process to the Indonesian Military and Indonesian National Police to provide a sense of security and comfort to the people of Nduga district,” he concluded.
