Police Ready to Help Monitor the Circulation of Liquid Drugs

Tribratanews.polri.go.id – Jakarta.  The National Police Food Task Force is ready to assist the relevant ministries and non-ministerial government agencies to withdraw liquid drugs containing kidney-damaging chemicals from circulation.

"The National Police are ready to assist central and regional relevant ministries," said the Head of the General Information of the Public Relations Division of the National Police, Commissioner Nurul Azizah on Friday (21/10/2022) quoted from Antaranews.

She explained that the National Police's Food Task Force had informed their regional unit to assist the government in monitoring the circulation of liquid drugs in the region. "We have informed our regional unit to assist in monitoring (the circulation of liquid drugs)," added Nurul.

For the time being, the Ministry of Health has instructed all health workers in health care facilities not to prescribe medicines in the form of liquid or syrup until there is a further official announcement from the Government.

In addition, all pharmacies are also asked to temporarily not sell over-the-counter and/or limited-free drugs in the form of syrup to the public until there is an official announcement from the Government regarding this matter.

So far, the Government has not banned the use of paracetamol, but has prohibited the use of medicinal products in the form of liquid drugs that contain hazardous chemicals, one of which is ethylene glycol (EG).

It is known, the Ministry of Health has issued instructions regarding the obligation of epidemiological investigations and reporting cases of acute kidney disorders in children on Tuesday (18/10/2022).
