Tribratanews.polri.go.id – Jakarta. The Indonesian Military and the Indonesia National Police (INP) discussed potential disturbances on the stability of security due to economic turmoil during the 2023 leadership meeting of the military and the INP held at the Sultan Hotel, Jakarta on Wednesday (8/2/2023).

Chief of the INP General Listyo Sigit Prasetyo said that the war has caused a multidimensional crisis ranging from the energy crisis, food, to the economy.

“Global economic turmoil has an impact on the stability of our domestic political, legal, defense and security state of affairs,” he said in his address.

The looming economic recession has the potential to increase hostility and hatred towards minority groups while the rising energy prices may trigger large-scale demonstrations and riots in countries with poor political stability.

During his address, the Chief of the INP highlighted Indonesia’s economic growth of 5.28 percent, which brought it to the sixth lowest in comparison to that of other G-20 countries. The figure was lower than the central bank’s initial forecast of 6.6 – 6.7%.

He reiterated the President’s direction in the recent 2023 Regional Leadership Communication Forum (Forkopimda) national coordination meeting on the economy, particularly on the issues of inflation, rising prices of goods and services. The Chief of the INP highlighted the importance of monitoring the prices of rice and cooking oil.

The police general urged the Indonesian Military and the INP through the Food Task Force, the village supervisory non-commissioned officers known as Babinsa and the public order officers known as Bhabinkamtibmas to assist the regional administrations in monitoring the availability and development of essential basic staples prices in the regions.

“We are aware that some  countries may not be happy that we, the Indonesian Military and the INP,  are able to maintain our political, legal, defense and security stability, particularly in strategic areas, to maintain the confidence of the investors,” he said.

The Chief of the INP raised his hopes that the Indonesian Military and the INP support P3DN, a program aimed at increasing the use of domestic goods,  promote the made-in Indonesia movement, and oversee the distribution of social assistance to the community to reach its target.
