The Women and Children Protection Unit (PPA) of the Sukabumi Police (Polres Sukabumi) Criminal Investigation Unit (Satreskrim) from 2021 to 2022 managed to uncover hundreds of cases of violence against children and women in the Sukabumi Regency, West Java.
"The number of cases that we have uncovered or handled is more than 121 cases in the past year from various cases of violence and harassment," explained Head of PPA Satreskrim Polres Sukabumi, Iptu Bayu Sunarti in Sukabumi, Sunday (3/4).
According to the Head of the PPA Satreskrim Polres Sukabumi, of the hundreds of cases handled by his party, more than 80 cases have been successfully resolved in which the perpetrators have been sentenced by the District Court of Sukabumi District Court.
He adds that in 2022 there are two prominent cases, which is the alleged human trafficking (TPPO) in which four victims were sold to the Papua Province region and the other one victim to Saudi Arabia.
All the victims are women whose ages can be from the early 20s to teenagers. Usually, this trafficker's network targets women who need work. In carrying luring their targets, they usually promised them a decent job with high wages.
Like the four women from Pelabuhanratu who were sold to Papua. They were told to work as waiters in a cafe but in reality, they were trafficked and forced to become commercial sex workers (PSK).
Meanwhile, in one other case, a young woman from the Cidahu sub-district became a victim of human trafficking to Saudi Arabia. While working in that country, the victim reported never getting paid, even it was a struggle just to eat or drink.
Another prominent case this year is the crime of abortion in which the police have arrested three suspects. The Head of PPA Satreskrim Polres Sukabumi said cases of violence against children still often occur, and victims usually experience physical abuse to sexual abuse.
Usually, the perpetrators of violence against children are among the closest people around them, both family and those around the victim. Therefore, he appealed to the entire community to take care of their children, so they will not become victims of violence, because the impact of the abuse is long-lasting.
