An explosion occurred at the SD C2 (Lori 2) coal mining pit in Sawahlunto City on Friday (12/9) morning, causing 10 workers to die and four other workers to suffer burns. As a result of this incident, the West Sumatra Regional Police will take firm action against PT Nusa Alam Lestari (NAL) if it is proven to have committed a violation.

West Sumatra Police Chief, Inspector General Suharyono said, in responding to the coal mine explosion incident, his party did not want to act rashly, because the company has an official mining permit. However, if there is a violation, action will be taken.

"We don't want to act rashly. If any legal procedures are violated, we will take action. However, we also look at social studies. If we close this mine permanently, hundreds of workers who depend on their lives will be threatened," said the Regional Police Chief as quoted from Antaranews, Friday (9/12/22).

Inspector General Suharyono said the status of this mine is legal. If it is illegal, then his party will immediately close all of its activities due to this incident.

“Of the 22 mining pits owned by the 22 companies, one of the holes is suspected of emitting methane gas, triggering an explosion, and flames. At this time we will temporarily close the mine to find the cause of the explosion," concluded the Regional Police Chief.
