Tribratanews.polri.go.id – Jakarta. The Director of Road Traffic of the Ministry of Transportation Cucu Mulyana has estimated that approximately 123,8 million people will travel for Eid al-Fitr this year, also known as “mudik”. The data was gathered through a survey on the Potential People Movement during the 2023 Annual Mudik Period.

“The potential movement is 45.8 percent or around 123.8 million people, with the most commonly used transportation being private cars (22,07%), motorcycles (20,30%), and buses (18,39%),” he said.

He urged motorcycle riders, particularly those traveling from Jakarta to Solo or Semarang which takes more than eight hours, to use free mudik facilities and public transportation. He emphasized that traveling by motorcycle is not only tiring but also poses a high risk of accidents.

He said that the Ministry of Transportation has predicted that the peak of the mudik period would occur on April 21 (15.1 percent) and April 20 (10.3 percent), while the peak of return traffic would be on April 25 (14.3 percent) and April 26 (13.9 percent).

The ministry has taken several measures to prepare for the influx of travelers, including coordinating and conducting technical meetings with stakeholders, providing rest facilities, surveying transportation readiness and infrastructure, and socializing policies for transportation regulation.

Additionally, the ministry has developed a national transportation regulation and control operational plan, evaluated and analyzed the policies, provided free mudik facilities, formed and implemented the 2023 Lebaran Integrated Transportation Center at various road sections and transportation hubs as rest areas and health services, and issued a joint decision on road traffic regulation and crossing.

“There are currently 111 terminals with 57,693 buses for road transportation and eight SDP routes with 209 ships at 51 docks for river and lake transportation,” he said.
