Tribratanews.polri.go.id – Kupang. The NTT Regional People’s Representative Council (DPRD) has commended the Chief of Indonesian National Police (INP) General Polisi Listyo Sigit Prabowo’s decision to appoint a female police officer, Police Senior Superintendent Josephien Vivick Tjangkung, as the new police chief in Lembata.

“This appointment is evidence that gender equality is gaining ground in NTT, with more women taking the reins in government agencies. We applaud the Chief of INP for this progressive move,” said Emilia Nomleni, the Speaker of the NTT’s DPRD on Wednesday (3/29/23).

She expressed optimism that the appointment of a female police chief would bring a fresh perspective to law enforcement services offered by the police force in the island-based province.

“Women’s approach to community services is different from men’s. Women are more compassionate and better suited to resolving the community’s problems,” she added.

She further hoped that this decision would pave the way for more female police officers to follow in Tjangkung’s footsteps and attain leadership roles. With these efforts, she believed that gender equality will become more pronounced in the police force.
