Handling Land and Forest Fire and Covid-19 Well, President Appreciates Riau Regional Police Performance

Tribratanews.polri.go.id - Pekanbaru. The efforts of Riau Regional Police and its ranks to stem forest and land fires so Riau Regional is free from smog disaster have received appreciation from President Joko Widodo. This was mentioned by the President in 75th anniversary of Bhayangkara Day.

Besides forest and land fires, President Jokowi also appreciated the handling of Covid-19 in Riau. The reason is, a few weeks before the end of June, the spike of Covid-19 in Riau did not occur again. Riau in the last few days has always been at 200 cases per day. This is different from the beginning until last June, which was always above 600, even the highest in Indonesia.

The celebration of Bhayangkara Day in Indonesia took place virtually. The President greeted number of Chiefs of Resort and Regional Police, including Riau, whose commemoration was held at Riau Regional Police Headquarter on Pattimura Street Pekanbaru.

"Riau Regional Police, how is the handling of forest and land fires there?" the President asked Chief of Riau Regional Police, Police Inspector General Agung Setya Imam Effendi, Thursday, July 1, 2021.

Accompanied by Governor of Riau, Syamsuar and members of regional leadership communication forum, Chief of Riau Regional Police explained the details of forest and land fires handling to the President. The two-star general assured that in 2021 forest and land fires would drastically decrease compared to 2019 and 2020.

"Until now, we, together with Indonesia National Armed Forces, Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), and Municipality Police (Satpol PP), and other elements have deployed 5,232 personnels in handling forest and land fires. We have also prepared 6,000 units of water pumping machines for extinguishing," Chief of Riau Regional Police explained.

In the dialogue with the President, Chief of Riau Regional Police also mentioned the handling of forest and land fires in Riau have involved human resources and technological approach. Riau Regional Police have used Lancang Kuning Dashboard, and application used by other Regional Police whose area is prone to forest and land fire.

To the President, Chief of Riau Regional Police also mentioned hotspots in 2021 has dropped drastically to 641 hotspots with an area of 124 hectares of fire area. It is decreasing compared to forest and land fires in 2019, where the hotspots reached 11,000 points.

"Then there were 6,000 hotspots in 2020," Chief of Riau Regional Police said.

Chief of Riau Regional Police also explained the handling and prevention of Covid-19 in Riau which continue to be optimized. Starting from anticipating transmission from exposed patients by maximizing 3 T (Testing, Tracing, Treatment), to the construction of vaccination center in former Riau Regional Police Headquarters building.

After paying attention to Chief of Riau Regional’s explanation, President Jokowi expressed his appreciation. The number one person in the Republic of Indonesia is also grateful for the efforts and hard work.

"Very good, thank you Chief of Riau Regional Police. After I, Commander and Chief of Indonesia National Police went to Riau, we gave a target and it was implemented, the case (of Covid-19) is decreasing. I think this is a good thing for other Regional Police to imitate. Then also thank you for the handling of forest and land fire there," President Jokowi said ending his virtual dialogue with the ranks of Riau Regional Police.
