The casualties in the riot involved a number of masses from the supporters, Aremania, civilians, and security apparatus who were on duty.

The riot happened after a match which resulted the defeat of the home team, Arema FC, by Persebaya with a score of 2-3 in the match week 11 of Liga 1 2022.
After the match, thousands of angry Aremania, or Arema FC supporters, went to the field. Seeing thousands of supporters infiltrate the field, the security forces from the Police and the TNI immediately tried to secure the players and disperse the mass.
