Indonesian Foreign Minister Reveals the Reason Why Palestina is not an Independent State

27 September 2022 - 10:00 WIB - The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, Retno Lestari Priansari Marsudi, explained the reason Palestine has not been independent from Israeli occupation until now.

The statement was made by the Indonesian Foreign Minister, Retno Marsudi, at the Ministerial Meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) at the United Nations (UN) Headquarters in New York.

''One of the reasons the issue of Palestine remains on the agenda of the Non-Aligned Movement and remains unresolved is due to the gap between the commitments and implementation. We don't walk the talk, we just talk, but we don't do anything'' said Minister for Foreign Affairs Retno Marsudi at the NAM Ministerial Meeting in New York, (24/09/2022).

“In the past week, we have talked a lot about the global crisis. But one thing we must not miss is our commitment to Palestine. Liberating Palestine from colonialism is our common debt," said the Minister.

The Indonesian Foreign Minister, Retno Marsudi, emphasized that Indonesia would not shift one bit in realizing Palestinian independence by adhering to the two-state solution. Moreover, she said that Indonesia was proud being able to stand at the forefront of fighting for Palestinian independence.

On that occasion, she said NAM should also continue to play an important role in realizing a Palestinian state.

“The NAM should be able to play a bigger role in encouraging the start of the peace process because the NAM consists of 120 countries, meaning it has 60% of the votes in the UN. This will make a difference. In addition, currently, five NAM countries are non-permanent members of the UN Security Council," said the Indonesian Minister.

"With 139 countries having recognized Palestine as a state, we must continue to fight for Palestine's independence until it is achieved," she stressed.
