The Cartenz Peace Operation 2023, comprising personnel from the Indonesian Military and Indonesian National Police (INP), has successfully arrested YL, a key Armed Criminal Group (KKB) member led by Egianus Kogoya, for his involvement in multiple terror activities in Papua since 2021.
The Head of Law Enforcement (Gakkum) of Operation Cartenz 2023 Police Senior Superintendent Era Adhinata revealed that YL was involved in the burning of a Susi Air plane and the kidnapping of the pilot Philip Mark Mehrtens. YL is also suspected of being involved in burning Camp Dolarossa and engaging in gunfire with personnel from the Yonif Raider 700.
“In 2022, YL was suspected to be involved in the shooting of the SAM AIR PK-SMG plane at Kenyam Airport, Nduga. In February 2023, YL was also allegedly involved in threatening workers at the Puskesmas health clinic in Paro District, as well as the burning of a plane and the kidnapping of the pilot of Susi Air.,” he said.
While investigations into YL’s involvement in the KKB’s activities in Papua are ongoing, this arrest is a significant setback for the KKB’s operations in the region.
