Tribratanews.polri.go.id - Jakarta.   Police is currently investigating two pharmaceutical companies regarding the alleged excessive dosage of ethylene glycol (EG) and diethylene glycol (DEG) in their syrup medicine.

The Director of Certain Crimes of the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Indonesian National Police, Brigadier General Pipit Rismanto said that BPOM will inspect and take action against several markets or pharmacies that are still selling these dangerous medicines.

It was reported that the excessive dosage of EG and AG in the liquid drugs is suspected to be the cause of acute kidney failure in children.

Meanwhile, the Head of BPOM, Penny K. Lukito explained that the safe threshold for EG and DEG in drugs is only 0.5 mg per kilogram per day.

"We have also found two companies in the pharmaceutical industry who violates it, which we will process," explained Penny K. Lukito, quoted via the Presidential Secretariat Youtube, Monday (24/10/2022).

The head of BPOM did not explain in detail the names of the two pharmaceutical companies in question.
