Tribratanews.polri.go.id – Jakarta. The Economic and Special Crime Directorate of the Indonesian National Police (INP) Criminal Investigation Agency has recently uncovered a case of counterfeit money circulation in Bekasi and Bandung, West Java and arrested eight suspects
Two of the suspects, identified only by their abbreviated names MS and D, were arrested in Bandung. The rest, identified as AW, DD, MUS, ET or AC, IB, and AS or AB, were arrested in Bekasi.
Brigadier General Ahmad Ramadhan, the Head of Public Information Bureau of the INP Public Relation Division, said on Wednesday (15/2/23) that the police launched the investigation of the case after a tip off from members of the local community.
“After receiving the tip off, the police launched an investigation that led to the arrest of the suspects,” he said during a press conference in Jakarta.
The police investigation team confiscated a total US$2 million in counterfeit money. In addition, the team also confiscated items such as a motorcycle, backpacks, handbags, wallets, mobile phones, and a certificate of domicile belonging to suspect MS or D .
All suspects are charged under Article 244 of the Criminal Code and Article 245 of the Criminal Code in conjunction with Article 55 , which carry with a maximum penalty of 15 years imprisonment.
