The Ministry of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection appreciates the quick response of the police

Tribratanews.polri.go.id - Jambi.  The Ministry of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection appreciates the quick response of the police who succeeded in uncovering cases of sexual violence in one of the Islamic boarding schools in Muaro Jambi.

The Deputy Minister of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection , Ratna Susianawati, said that her party would oversee the handling of minor victims and ensure that victims, LA (19), had access to justice and got her rights.

"We also appreciates the courage of the victim to report the sexual violence she experienced and the quick response of the police who succeeded in uncovering this case," said Ratna in Jakarta, Wednesday (5/10/2022).

According to Ratna, sexual violence is one of the cases in which many cases are undiscovered due to the mental stress of the victims. This makes many sexual predators still roam free in the community, living their live while their victims is suffering.

Ratna emphasized that the Ministry continues to invite people who have experienced, heard, seen, or know about cases of sexual violence to be brave to report their horrible experiences to the institutions that have been mandated by Law Number 12 of 2022 concerning the Crime of Sexual Violence (UU TPKS), such as UPTD PPA, Community Based Service Providers, and Police.

"The public can also report through the Hotline of Women and Children Friends (SAPA) 129 or Whatsapp 08111-129-129," explained Ratna.

Ratna explained that the obscenity experienced by LA occurred since 2019, while she was still 16 years old.

On September 22, 2022, the victim reported her case to the Sungai Gelam Police Sector, Muaro Jambi Regency. Currently, perpetrator AA (44) has been secured and named as suspect.

The perpetrators are also threatened with criminal sanctions in Article 82 of Law Number 17 of 2016 with a minimum prison sentence of five years and a maximum of 15 years and/or a maximum fine of IDR 5 billion.
