Yahukimo Departmental Police Arrested 52 Suspects of Yahukimo Regency Riots

On Sunday, October 3, 2021, at 12.45, in the Dekai district of Yahukimo regency, there had been a riot due to an attack towards Yali tribe people by the Kimyal tribe. The chronology of the incident was started at 12.45, where the mass from the Kimyal tribe, led by their chieftain, Morome Keya Busup, using two minibuses and brought arrows and machetes, attacked the Yali tribe. At 12.50, Departmental Police personnel received information from the people that there had been an attack towards Yali tribe people so that Yahukimo Departmental Police deployed 20 personnel led by Chief of Intelligence and Security Unit, Police Commissioner Attendant I Nengah S Gapar, to the location to ward off the action. At 13.00, the mass was driven away from the location using two minibuses to the Yali tribe complex at the Telkomsel Complex Residential Area. At 13.20, the mass relaunched the attack towards the Yali tribe in the Nuri hotel, which turned into the burning of the hotel. At 13.30, Chief of Yahukimo Departmental Police, Police Grand Commissioner Attendant Deni Hardiana, with other 20 joint personnel, went to the Yali tribe complex, which is in the Telkomsel Complex, to drive off the mass. At 13.35, the driven-off mass moved through a path behind the old government barracks at Jenderal Sudirman street to the Sekla complex at Gunung street and burned several houses of the Yali tribe. At 13.40, the Chief of Departmental Police, together with the Armed Forces-Police personnel, moved from Nuri hotel to the Sekla complex to disperse the people who conducted arson. At 14.00, the mass was successfully driven away so that the Chief of Departmental Police, with the joint personnel, evacuated victims to Dekai General Hospital. At 14.30, the Armed Forces-Police joint personnel secured vital objects such as Yahukimo Regent Office, Yahukimo Local Representative Assembly, and other office premises. Until now, the perpetrators' identities are suspected from Kimyal. One person who died during the riot was identified as Yaset Yahuli. Ten injured people are as follows: 1. Selina Sobolim (40), female, resident of Gunung street (hit by an arrow at the right waist).
2. Yusuf Maulana, male, resident of Gunung street (hit by an arrow, crossing his nose).
3. Hosea Sobolim (40), male, resident of Sudirman Street Km. 2 (hit by an arrow on his back).
4. Anes Sobolim (45), male, resident of Gunung street (hit by a stone).
5. Dekius Kobak (30), male, resident of Kurima street (hit by an arrow on his back).
6. Atius Balingga (45), male, resident of Gunung street (hit by an arrow on his back).
7. Kiname Kobak (47), male, resident of Gunung street (hit by an arrow on his back).
8. Hengki Mohi (50), male, resident of Gunung street (hit by an arrow on his back and right hand).
9. Darius Kobak (35), male, resident of Gunung street (hit by an arrow on his back).
10. Maus Payage (30), male, resident of Gunung street (hit by an arrow on his back). During the attack, Police seized one piece of evidence, which is one minibus used by perpetrators to attack. Police have conducted follow-up actions such as arrived at the scene, secure the location, evacuated the Yali tribe who has been the riot victim to the Dekai General Hospital, approached the community figures, and conducting the investigation. The case is now being handled by Yahukimo Departmental Police. Chief of PR and Press Agency of Papua Regional Police, Police Grand Commissioner Ahmad Musthofa Kamal, said that after the riot, Yahukimo Departmental Police arrested 52 perpetrator suspects. All 52 people are now under intensive interrogation by the investigators of Yahukimo Departmental Police. The attack was started by the sorrowful news received by the Kimyal tribe regarding the death of former Yahukimo regent Abock Busup. The people are still taking refuge in the Yahukimo Departmental Police Headquarter. Joint forces of Armed Forces-Police is still patrolling and securing mass gathering locations to prevent unwanted incidents that could disturb security stability in the Yahukimo regency.
