Virtual Police Team of Central Java Regional Police Arrest Perpetrators of Child Kidnapping Hoax

Tribratanews.polri.go.id - Semarang. The Central Java Regional Police have firmly addressed the issue of child abduction, which has spread on social media. However, after the team manning the virtual police carried out cyber patrols, the Directorate of Special Crimes Investigation asked for clarification from a perpetrator who spread hoaxes about attempted child abductions on social media.

Head of Public Relations Division of the Central Java Regional Police, Police Grand Commissioner Muhammad Iqbal Alqudusy, said the arrested perpetrator had the initials HR, a resident of Ngablak, Magelang Regency. The statement was said when we met at the Directorate of Water and air Police Headquarters of the Central Java Regional Police yesterday.

"HR has been warned three times to his Facebook account, but there is no response. So finally, the officer immediately rushed to Magelang, looking for the person concerned according to his ID card address. After that, he (HR) was invited to the local police station for clarification,” explained the Head of Public Relations Division during an interview, Wednesday (28/9/21) afternoon.

In front of the officers, HR admitted to uploading a video through Lucky Sak Josse Shters' Facebook account that said there was a child kidnapping in Durensawit hamlet, Selomerah Village, Ngablak Magelang District.

Head of Public Relations Division of the Central Java Regional Police added that HR claimed to have found the video in an alumni WhatsApp group of a school in Magelang, then uploaded it to Facebook with "to increase parental awareness".

Against the perpetrators of the hoax video, the Central Java Regional Police took restorative justice steps. HR is required to make an apology letter and make a video clarification to related parties that the content uploaded on Facebook is a hoax or fake.

Head of Public Relations Division underlined the virtual police presence in the community, intended to prevent the public from violating the laws and regulations.

“Virtual police are intended to prevent criminal acts under the Electronic Information and Transaction (ITE) Law. The presence of the police in the digital space so that the cyber world can run in a clean, healthy and productive manner. Besides that, it is also to reduce hoax content on social media, so that internet users are also more careful," said Police Grand Commissioner Muhammad Iqbal Alqudusy.

He added that through the Virtual Police, the police educate the public and notify that what is written is a criminal offence.
