The Chief of Indonesian National Police Affirms “Extraordinary” Steps Are Needed to Keep Covid-19 Under Control in Papua

The Chief of Indonesian National Police, Police General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, and Commander of Indonesian National Armed Forces, Marshal of Indonesian National Armed Forces Hadi Tjahjanto chaired a meeting with Regional Leadership Coordination Forum of Mimika, Papua, Saturday (28/8/21).

This meeting discussed the control of COVID-19, significantly ahead of the National Sports Week (PON) XX in the coming weeks. "The condition of COVID-19 cases in Papua has been sloping after the spike in cases on August 8, 2021. We must maintain it with extraordinary steps. Don't let a spike in cases happen again when PON XX Papua is carried out," said the Chief of Indonesian National Police.

The Chief of Indonesian National Police also conveyed several steps that can be taken to avoid the occurrence of Covid-19 transmission both before and during the implementation of the National Sports Week (PON) XX. "Reduce physical contact with other people for 14 days before departure. Prepare a list of names of people in close contact to be validated by COVID-19 officers of the National Sports Week (PON XX) Grand Committee. Implement health protocols according to the recommendations of the Ministry of Health, including changing masks every day or 2 or 3 layered cloth masks, "said the Chief of the Indonesian National Police.

"If deemed necessary, a COVID-19 test will be carried out. Regular COVID-19 tests will be carried out during the National Sports Week (PON), according to their respective duties and roles. If the test results are positive, self-isolation will be carried out or referred to a hospital according to the Ministry of Health guidelines. In addition, tracing is carried out on close contacts," continued the Chief of Indonesian National Police.

In this case, the Chief of Indonesian National Police again encourages all Regional Leadership Coordination Forum ranks and the Indonesian National Armed Forces also Indonesian National Police to keep PON XX running without any transmission of Covid-19. "To reduce the risk of transmission due to COVID-19, the Indonesian National Armed Forces-Indonesian National Police together with the regional government continue to accelerate vaccination.
