North Sumatra Police Head of Public Relations (Kabid Humas) Commissioner Hadi Wahyudi said the number of witnesses examined related to modern slavery of Regent of Langkat, Terbit Rencana Perangin Angin, currently are more than 65 people.

“Witnesses that we examined now are more than 65 people,” explained Kabid Humas

A total of 65 people who were examined consisted of people who had lived in the cage and their families or people who knew about the alleged criminal acts that occurred while in that place.

Kabid Humas adds that Polda Sumut currently is still investigating to uncover the alleged abuse that often happens in the cage.

Apart from examining dozens of witnesses, Polda also examined the two graves of the caged occupants who were thought to have died as a result of being mistreated there.

The two graves excavated were located at the Pondok VII Public Cemetery (TPU), Sawit Sebrang Village, and in Purwobinangun Village, Sei Bingei District, Langkat Regency. He said that the examination of the dead was for autopsy purposes to complete the investigation process.

"The dismantling of this grave is to explore the case of the occupants of the cage who died, suspected of being victims of persecution," he said.
