Strict Action for Those Who Take Advantage of the Covid-19 Pandemic Situation, National Police's Criminal Investigation Agency Reveals 33 Cases of Hoarding Drugs and Oxygen Cylinders

Tribratanews.polri.go.id – Jakarta. The police managed to uncover 33 cases of hoarding of Covid-19 therapeutic drugs and oxygen cylinders that were sold on Highest Retail Price (HET) without a distribution permit that occurred in Indonesian territory.

National Police's Criminal Investigation Agency and the ranks of the Regional Police have so far taken action against 33 cases with 37 suspects, explained the Director of Special Economic Crimes (Dirtipideksus) of Indonesian National Police, Brigadier General. Pol. Helmy Santika, at a press conference at the National Police Criminal Investigation Agency, Jakarta, Wednesday (07/28/21).

Director of Special Economic Crimes in Crime Investigation Unit explained, 33 cases were revealed by the Criminal Investigation Police and the ranks of the Regional Police in the area. At the National Police Headquarter level, the Criminal Investigation Unit of the National Police handled eight cases with 19 suspects, five cases with 10 suspects at the Director of Special Economic Crimes and three cases with three suspects at the Narcotics Division.

"The case is related to selling drugs above the highest retail price (HET), detaining or hoarding or storing for certain purposes, then distributing them without a distribution permit, then changing fire extinguishers (APAR) tubes into oxygen cylinders," explained the National Police's Criminal Investigation Department Director of Special Economic Crimes in Crime Investigation Agency.

From the results of the disclosure, the Police have confiscated a number of evidences including 365,876 tablets of Covid-19 therapeutic drugs of various types, 62 vials of Covid-19 therapeutic drugs of various types, then 48 oxygen cylinders. In addition, in this disclosure, the National Police also took action against a drug factory in Cianjur that produces the antibiotic drug Azithromycin.

National Police's Director of Special Economic Crimes in Crime Investigation Unit explained that in the factory officers found 178,000 Azithromycin pills and 125 kg of materials for the manufacture of drugs. Where the material when produced into Azithromycin produces 300 thousand grains. For the drug factory case in Cianjur, the National Police took steps to handle it with a restorative justice approach, while the other 33 cases were criminally processed in each handling division.

As for the articles that are suspected of 37 suspects, namely Article 196 of Law Number 36 of 2009 concerning Health with a threat of 10 years in prison, Article 62 juchto Article 10 of Law Number 8 of 1999 concerning Consumer Protection, with a maximum threat of five years in prison.Tribratanews.polri.go.id – Jakarta.
