Strait-crossing Activity in Increase, Chief of PR and Press Agency: To Cross via Merak Harbour, Use PeduliLindungi Application

The relaxation in the Level 2 and 3 Community Activity Restrictions Enforcement (PPKM) makes the activities in Merak crossing harbour increasing a little during September, compared to the previous month. Chief of PR and Press Agency of Banten Regional Police, Police Grand Commissioner Attendant Shinto Silitonga, said on Friday (01/10/2021) that there is insignificant growth of activities based on gathered information. In September, he said, there was an increase in crossing activity in Merak harbour compared to August. "For the crossing trip was increased to 77 trips. In August, there were 2,888 trips, and by September, there were 2,965 trips. Meanwhile, for adult passengers, from 10,001 people becomes 13,209 people, or increased by 3,208 people. For baby passengers, there is an increase of 19 people from 93 to 112 people", Chief of PR and Press Agency said. For now, the increasing data are recorded on Type 1 vehicles, from 17 to 19 units; Type 2 vehicles, from 11,900 to 13,567 units; Type 3 vehicles, from 39 to 130 units; Passengers from Type 4 vehicles from 51,289 to 62,414 people; Passangers from Type 5 vehicles from 993 to 1,134 people; Passengers from Type 6 vehicles from 4,674 to 4,903; Goods from Type 6 vehicles from 28,669 to 30,274 units; Type 7 vehicles, from 15,571 to 16,361 units; and Type 9 vehicles, from 314 to 326 units. There are also decreasing crossing activities that happened on Goods from Type 4 vehicles, from 18,874 to 18,640 units; Goods from Type 5 vehicles, from 37,694 to 36,899 units; and Type 8 vehicles from 2,298 to 2,210 units. The vehicle types are explained as follows: Type 1 is cycles; Type 2 is less than 500 cc motorcycles and pushcarts; Type 3 is large motorcycles with more than 500 cc in capacities and three-wheeled vehicles; Type 4A is for jeeps, sedans, and minibuses no longer than 5 metres; Type 4B is for logistic cars, pickup trucks, and double cabins no longer than 5 metres; Type 5A is for buses with 5-7 metres long; Type 5B is for truck/tankers with 5-7 metres long; Type 6A for the bus with 7-10 metres long; Type 6B for truck/tankers with 7-10 metres long; Type 7 is for the large trucks, trailer trucks, and heavy equipment vehicles with 10-12 metres long; and Type 8 is for the large trucks, trailer trucks, and heavy equipment vehicles with 12-16 metres long. Chief of PR and Press Agency advises all people travelling out of and into Java island through the Merak harbour to download the Pedulilindungi application. He explained that Pedulilindungi is one of the requirements to cross through the Merak harbour. The application is being developed to assist the government in conducting tracing to stop the Covid-19 spread. "Besides swab, this application also becomes the requirement to make the Merak crossing possible because this application could trace to stop Covid-19 transmission", Shinto Silitonga said. Police Grand Commissioner Attendant Shinto Silitonga added that, technically, officers in Merak harbour would also check the passenger's National ID number through the Pedulilindungi application to check someone's vaccination status. Therefore, the check is rigorous. It is hoped that the implementation of the Pedulilindungi application could control mobilities in the middle of the pandemic well.
