"Facing the dry season this year and having detected hotspots recently, it is hoped that this announcement will be effective in preventing people and farmers from burning to clear or open agricultural land," explained the South Sumatra Regional Police's Head of PR, Pol. Grand Comissioner Supriadi in Palembang, Friday ( 05/29/21).
Pol. Grand Commissioner Supriadi explained that his team alerted the public to increase awareness of forest and land fires around village area or their respective residences. This is because recently the number of hotspots in South Sumatra has increased.
The number of hotspots in the period May 1-27 2021 reached 134 points, higher than the previous period of April 2021 with 122 points, March 2021 (49 points), February 2021 (17 points), and January 2021 (11 points).
Meanwhile, the number of hotspots detected in South Sumatra region began to increase with the end of the rainy season, this condition needs to be watched out for by people living in areas prone to forest and land fires.
According to data, there are 10 districts and cities that are prone to forest and land fires. Among others, Palembang City, Banyuasin Regency, Musi Banyuasin, Ogan Ilir, Ogan Komering Ilir, Muara Enim, East Ogan Komering Ulu, Lahat, Musirawas, and Musirawas Utara District.
The steps taken to tackle forest and land fires, in addition to spreading a warning ban on burning, his party also prepares equipment, vehicles and personnel to support the forest and land fires Management Task Force, conducts informing events and mitigates the dangers of forest and land fires.
With these preparations, later in the event of forest and land fires, officers will quickly and swiftly prepare official equipment or vehicles to move quickly to the fire location and extinguish the fire.
