Riau Islands Regional Police Arrested the Illegal Indonesian Migrant Workers Smuggler in Tanjung Uban

Tribratanews.polri.go.id – Batam. Five illegal Indonesian migrant workers (PMI) smugglers bound for Malaysia were arrested by the 4th Subdirectorate Team of the Directorate of General Criminal Investigation of Riau Islands Regional Police in Bintan regency.

Chief of the 4th Subdirectorate Team of the Directorate of General Criminal Investigation of Riau Islands Regional Police, Police Grand Commissioner Attendant Dhani Chatra Nugraha, said that Police successfully arrested five perpetrators on early Monday (13/09) in Bintan, specifically in Tanjung Uban, when they are bringing the illegal PMI (Indonesian migrant workers) to Malaysia by boat. When they travelled, the boat was broken down, and the illegal PMIs and perpetrators returned to a shelter and were arrested.

Chief of the 4th Subdirectorate Team of the Directorate of General Criminal Investigation of Riau Islands Regional Police explained that, in the arrest, Police arrested seven illegal PMI bound for Malaysia. The illegal PMIs are being transferred temporarily to the National Board for the Placement and Protection of Indonesian Overseas Workers.

Chief of the 4th Subdirectorate Team of the Directorate of General Criminal Investigation of Riau Islands Regional Police said that the victims are mostly from regions in Java island.

"When we inspected them, they bring no documents at all", Chief of the 4th Subdirectorate Team of the Directorate of General Criminal Investigation of Riau Islands Regional Police said.

The perpetrators and evidence are secured in the Riau Regional Police Headquarter for further investigation.
