Chief of Profession and Security (Propam) Division of Indonesian National Police, Police Inspector General Ferdy Sambo, visited the building of the Indonesian National Commission for Human Rights (Komnas HAM) to establish cooperation on strengthening external observation of Police personnel.
According to the Chief of Propam Division of Indonesian National Police, the meeting is an instruction from the Chief of Indonesian National Police, Police General Listyo Sigit Prabowo. This meeting is also affirming the Indonesian National Police commitment to enforcing human rights when on duty.
"As the instruction of the Chief of Indonesian National Police, we come here to meet and discuss with the Komnas HAM as the external supervisor", the Chief of Propam Division of Indonesian National Police said in a press conference in Komnas HAM on Tuesday (19/10/21).
During the meeting, the Chief of Propam Division of Indonesian National Police and Komnas HAM will together evaluate internal supervision that has been going.
According to him, with the support of supervision from the Police's external board, Propam's internal supervision could run optimally.
"We have an intact vision to enhance capacity and capabilities of internal supervision", he said.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Komnas HAM, Chaerul Anam, stated that the board have received complaints related to Police.
The reports include Police behaviour or related to investigation and law enforcement by the Bhayangkara corps.
According to the Commissioner of Komnas HAM, when the board was communicating with the Chief of Indonesian National Police and Chief of Propam Division, there was the same vision of Propam internal supervision with the supervision tasks of Komnas HAM.
"Komnas HAM builds accountability, and they built their Presisi, their programme. So, that's it, then come to Komnas HAM and let's talk about the mechanisms", he explained.
In the said cooperation, Komnas HAM and Propam Division of Indonesian National Police appointed a person-in-charge who would connect with each other. With this measure, Komnas HAM believed that this would ease them when asking for information about troubling Police personnel's measures.
"We build it systematically, and we also build the individual responsibly", he said.
