The West Sumatra Regional Police held a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) with the theme "Collaboration on Prevention of Hoax News in Social Media in Realising a Conducive security order in West Sumatra".
West Sumatra Deputy Chief of Regional Police, Brigadier General Pol. Edi Mardianto, when opening the FGD at the West Sumatra Regional Police, said that the potential for hoaxes on social media was so fast that preventive measures were needed.
This prevention can be done by monitoring social media with collaboration.
"This event is carried out to monitor the quality of media management, both conventional and online, so that there is no misuse of media by responsible parties that encourage hoaxes in the community," explained One Star General.
The West Sumatra Regional Police have so far taken action against three cases of hoax news. Namely, a doctor who made hoax news, a hoax video case related to the persecution of border officers and a hoax news case at a restaurant in Padang.
The West Sumatra Regional Police explained that the community or irresponsible people made hoax information.
Prevention of the spread of hoaxes can be done by monitoring on social media. When various issues are related to certain parties' use of information and technology, explained Brigadier General Pol. Edi Mardianto, Wednesday (09/29/21).
While the Head of Public Relations of the West Sumatra Regional Police, Pol. Grand Commissioner Satake Bayu said that there had been a lot of hoax news circulating by the public or irresponsible people and causing disturbance upon other people.
"This is one of the initiatives in cooperating with Regional Leadership Coordination Forum and students and traditional institutions to find solutions to existing problems. We hope that the idea of prevention, this collaboration will go to the national level," concluded the Head of Public Relations of the West Sumatra Regional Police.
