Tribratanews.polri.go.id - Pontianak. PR Division of National Police held Focused Group Discussion (FGD) with the religious and community figures of Pontianak city and Kubu Raya regency at the Hall of Pontianak City Departmental Police Headquarter on Monday (06/12/21).
In this event, Police invited the Daily Manager of Extremism and Terrorism Management Agency (BPET) of Central Indonesian Clerics Council (MUI), Ustaz Muhammad Makmum Rasyid.
The FGD titled "Counter-radicalism Report" was opened by Police Grand Commissioner Sugeng Hadi Sutrisno as the Chief of Analysis and Evaluation Agency of the National Police, accompanied by Chief of PR Agency of West Kalimantan Regional Police, Police Grand Commissioner Donny Charles Go.
Police Grand Commissioner Sugeng Hadi Sutrisno addressed that this activity is a special programme from the National Police to see how far people have resistance from the radicalism in their neighbourhood.
Radicalism is an ideology that is not in accordance with the rules and norms, in which the ideology has a hatred because the ideology claims that other ideologies are wrong and their ideology is the one that is right.
With the fast development of information technology, he deemed that radicalism development is growing fast. Therefore, he advised people to be more aware and must have resistance force inside.
"If the community could resist, then the radicalism could seep in, which is not in accordance with our teachings and norms. This report must be addressed to us immediately", the Chief of Analysis and Evaluation Agency of PR Division of Indonesian National Police said.
In the same place, the Daily Manager of BPET MUI, Ustaz Muhammad Makmum Rasyid, said that radicalism, if related to terrorism, means a person who forces its will.
Ustaz Muhammad Makmum Rasyid stated that someone exposed to radicalism doesn't have any physical characteristics, but it comes from someone's attitude.
"The easiest ones are when the people are being intolerant and deemed religions other than him are wrong, and being exclusive, intolerant, only believes in his own and group's belief, blames other people's religion, it could be the characteristics, but there are no special characteristics, physically", the Daily Manager of BPET MUI concluded.
