South Kalimantan Regional Police, through its Directorate of Intelligence and Security, together with Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM), held a Seminar on Preventing the Spread of Radicalism that Leads to Terrorism in Campus Neighbourhood on Sunday (29/08/21).
The event commenced in the General Building of the Social and Political Science Faculty of ULM of Banjarmasin was implemented with strict Health Protocols and was only attended by sixty people from student representations, activists, Student Executive Board, Student Activity Units from many faculties, et cetera.
This seminar was opened by the Director of Intelligence and Security of South Kalimantan Regional Police, Police Grand Commissioner Nur Romdhoni, represented by Chief of Subdirectorate of State Security of the Directorate of Intelligence and Security of South Kalimantan Regional Police, Police Commissioner Paryoto, and attended by Rector of ULM, represented by the Vice-Rector, Dr Muhammad Fauzi, and Chief of Unit 3 of Subdirectorate of State Security of the Directorate of Intelligence and Security of South Kalimantan Regional Police, Police Inspector 2nd Class, Legiyo.
Besides, this seminar also invited speakers from the Head of South Kalimantan Regional Office of Ministry of Religious Affairs, Dr H Tambrin, Terrorism Prevention Communication Forum of South Kalimantan, Dr Aliansyah Mahadi, Lecturer of ULM, Dr Andi Ichsan Mahardika, and Head of Analysis Department of the Directorate of Intelligence and Security of South Kalimantan Regional Police, Police Grand Commissioner Attendant Soetrijono.
Chief of Subdirectorate of State Security of the Directorate of Intelligence and Security of South Kalimantan Regional Police, Police Commissioner Paryoto, stated the importance of preventing the radicalism that leads to terrorism, mainly in the campus neighbourhood that could be the breeding ground of such ideology.
Besides, he added that college students' age is the age of looking for identity, which could be influenced and targeted by certain parties in spreading radicalism.
"(We could prevent them) by taking part in reporting to our nearby personnel if heard any suspicious activities", the Middle Officer of South Kalimantan Regional Police said.
Meanwhile, Vice-Rector, Dr Muhammad Fauzi, warmly welcomed the prevention measures conducted by the South Kalimantan Regional Police, even though his campus shows no indications of ideology related to terrorism.
"The prevention is better. (I hope) the attendees could share and spread to the others. We also gave subject matter on radicalism during neighbourhood orientation to the freshmen every year", he said in the middle of the event.
One of the attendees feels grateful to attend this event because the seminar was filled with competent speakers to recognise radicalism and implement prevention measures if there is any.
"I hope every student could strengthen their 'fort' and able to prevent the spread the radicalism that could lead to terrorism", they said after the seminar.
