President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) urged the TNI-Polri to be selective in inviting preachers, especially those preachers who have a radical understanding of the argument of democracy. This was conveyed by Jokowi when giving a speech at the TNI-Polri Leadership Meeting 2022.
In response to this request, the Head of the Public Relations Division (Kabid Humas) of the National Police (Polri) Inspector General Dedi Prasetyo stated that the President's instructions will be conducted by all police officers. For those who violate it, the Police are ready to take firm action.
"The president's request will be the guideline in conducting his directive order," said Dedi when interviewed by reporters in Jakarta, Wednesday (2/3/2022).
Dedi said that if Polri found that those kinds of preachers were invited by the police, Polri will give strict sanctions to them. According to him, it is also for the good of preventing radicalism.
"If it is proven that has happened, Propam will take firm action against the officers who involved. Because this is for the common good and to mitigate the spread of radicalism," said Dedi.
