President of Indonesia, Joko "Jokowi" Widodo, accompanied by Chief of Indonesian National Police, General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, inspected simultaneous Merdeka Vaccination in houses of worship and Islamic boarding school across Indonesia on Tuesday (7/9/2021). The event was held across Indonesia in 341 locations.
During the occasion, President Jokowi and the Chief of Indonesian National Police greeted the Merdeka Vaccination participants in houses of worship and Islamic boarding schools in East Java, Central Kalimantan, and West Nusa Tenggara virtually.
Regarding the event, Sigit stated that this Merdeka Vaccination is a strategy of Armed Forces-Police on accelerating herd immunity. "Merdeka Vaccination event on today involves houses of worship and Islamic boarding schools, targeting the general public, elderly, congregations, santri, boarding school managers, and worship house caretakers in 341 location and 346,888 people", Sigit said when accompanying President Jokowi inspecting the event in KH Syamsudin Islamic Boarding School in Ponorogo, East Java.
Besides vaccination, the former Chief of Banten Regional Police also stated that the event is also filled with social aid distribution from President Jokowi to people affected the most by the Covid-19 pandemic. "We also distribute social aid to the people affected (by Covid-19) and vaccination participants as many as 60,341 basic necessities packages and 88 tons of rice", Sigit said.
Sigit emphasises that Armed Forces and Police would keep collaborating with all public elements to achieve 100 per cent vaccination in the community until the second dose.
According to him, this is the implementation of extraordinary measures and policies taken by the government for public safety, in accordance with the Salus Populi Suprema Lex Esto.
"To suppress Covid-19 transmission, Indonesian National Police keeps accelerating national vaccination through the strategy to include communities just like the ones we are doing", the former Chief of Criminal Investigation Agency of Indonesian National Police said.
On this occasion, Sigit explained that Merdeka Vaccination that includes religious figures and their congregations could be a contagious effect on their families, friends, neighbours, and communities around them so that people will not hesitate to get vaccinated.
"Besides, the vaccination programme at the house of worship would revitalise the place as the social function. Places of worship are essentially educating their congregation in social life, including the prevention of Covid-19 transmission", Sigit said.
Furthermore, Sigit also explained that the high vaccination rate is the basic on achieving living side by side with Covid-19, which is how the economy could grow without the significant rise of Covid-19.
"This is, of course, should be followed by the obedience towards Health Protocols such as washing the hands, wearing masks, and keeping distance. Therefore, our aim on Advanced Indonesian and Golden Indonesia 2045 could be achieved", Sigit concluded.
