PR and Press Division of Indonesian National Police and Banjarmasin Departmental Police Held FGD on Preventing Radicalism and Terrorism

Avoiding the growth and the spread of radicalism and terrorism in the community, the PR and Press Division of Indonesian National Police held a Focused Group Discussion (FGD) event in the area under the jurisdiction of Banjarmasin Departmental Police, South Kalimantan Regional Police, on Wednesday (29/9/21) at 14.00.

The event that was held in the Rupatama Hall of the Banjarmasin Departmental Police was attended by Chief of PR and Press Agency of South Kalimantan Regional Police, Police Grand Commissioner Mochammad Rifa'i, Chief of Banjarmasin Departmental Police, Police Grand Commissioner Rachmat Hendrawan, Deputy Chief of Banjarmasin Departmental Police, Police Grand Commissioner Attendant Sabana Atmojo, and Primary Officials of Banjarmasin Departmental Police and also personnel of PR and Press Agency of South Kalimantan Regional Police.

Besides that, the event was also attended by the entourage from the PR and Press Division of Indonesian National Police, consisting of Police Grand Commissioner Sumarto (Chief of Partnership Board of General Information Bureau of PR and Press Division of Indonesian National Police), Police Grand Commissioner Attendant Erlan Munaji (Chief of Sub-board of Opinion, Analysis, and Evaluation of General Information Bureau of PR and Press Division of Indonesian National Police), Police Inspector 1st Class Muhammad Rizki Fajar, Police Brigadier Agus Muhammad, and Police Brigadier 2nd Class Adilla Rizkya Putri.

The FGD on avoiding and handling radicalism and terrorism in Banjarmasin city is titled "Terrorism, Our Common Enemy".

Chief of PR and Press Agency of South Kalimantan Regional Police, Police Grand Commissioner Mochammad Rifa'i, in his statement, said that this event aims to prevent and anticipate public events that may lean towards and categorised as radical and terror as early as possible.

People are advised to together united and cooperated to reject radicalism and terrorism as the theme of today's FGD.

"So, the prevention and handling of radicalism and terrorism in the community is not only Police job but also everyone's responsibility because terrorism is our common enemy", Chief of PR and Press Agency of South Kalimantan Regional Police said.

The 1988 Alumni of Police Academy asked that family could supervise their children in using social media so that they are not spreading hoaxes. According to him, terrorists do not separate religion, and they conduct the activity for their own interests to spread terror.

"This forum is important to attend to enrich our understandings on preventing and handling radicalism and terrorism", he said.

Meanwhile, Chief of Partnership Board of General Information Bureau of PR and Press Division of Indonesian National Police, Police Grand Commissioner Sumarto, on the same occasion, explained that community's role, mainly Neighbourhood Association and religious as well as youth figures and local people are important in avoiding and handling radicalism and terrorism in the region, especially in South Kalimantan, and Banjarmasin city in general.

"So the accurate information is usually come from the people, because terrorists usually very closed people, so when Police arrested a terrorist, journalists would search where the head of Neighbourhood Association lives or any local people", Chief of Partnership Board of General Information Bureau of PR and Press Division of Indonesian National Police.

Therefore, Chief of Partnership Board of General Information Bureau of PR and Press Division of Indonesian National Police, Police Grand Commissioner Sumarto, hoped that the FGD held in Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan could make people, especially religious and youth figures to be more active in supervising their community.
