inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Food Task Force of the Indonesian National Police (Polri) followed up Ombudsman findings of hoarding cooking oil allegations. The hoarding is thought to be the cause of the scarcity of cooking oil and the skyrocketing price.
"We are still investigating. We still need more time," explained the Deputy Head of Food Task Force Polri, Brigadier General Whisnu Hermawan Februanto, S.I.K., M.H., Thursday (10/2/22).
He said the police had asked for data on the findings of the ombudsman, so far Ombudsman has not been given the data yet. According to him, the Food Task Force has reviewed throughout the country regarding the cooking oil issue, the Police have not found any facts related to the hoarding of cooking oil.
"We ourselves have not found any hoarding related to the issue. Currently, we are still
investigating it," said the Director of the Criminal Investigation Unit of the National Police.
The Ombudsman conveyed his three findings related to the scarcity and spike in cooking oil prices in the market. The findings were obtained from community situation reports data throughout Indonesia.
"First is hoarding. It is hoped that the food task force will react quickly and act firmly. Once the food task force act firmly, hoarding efforts can be minimized," said ORI member Yeka Hendra Fatika in a virtual press conference.
Second, the Ombudsman found an attempt to divert the sale of cooking oil from the modern market to the traditional market. The goal is so the cooking oil can be sold at a higher price.
"Because it has to be sold for Rp. 14,000 in modern markets, they prefer to sell them to traditional markets where they can sell it for Rp. 15,000 to Rp. 16,000," he explained.
Third, the scarcity of cooking oil occurs because of panic buying in the community. This situation is caused by unclear information related to cooking oil stocks in large and small modern retailers.
