"The National Police have asked the 1,042 content to be presented, educated and given a warning, because the content contains hate speech based on SARA that occurs on various social media platforms," explained Deputy Chief of the National Police (Wakapolri) Commissioner General Gatot Eddy Pramono, Thursday (10/2/). 22).
Eddy Pramono said that Polri must also act in social media regarding several contents have potential to violate the rights of others. Furthermore, he also wants an increase in polarization and sharpening law against SARA.
The Deputy Chief of National Police said that those contents could spark hostility and discord. However, he ensures that the authorities will not resort to legal action straight away. “We will warned and educate them first,” he said.
The Commissioner General adds that those steps were taken to safeguard democracy in social media and to remind them to be wise in what they type in their account. “We will approach them through our police virtual,” he adds.
Police virtual are known to be one of the program that was proposed by Kapolri Police General Listyo Sigit Prabowo. It sparks controversy when it was first implemented.
The Police virtual works to observe and overseen the contents in various social media platform, including Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
