inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The installation of chips or Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) on vehicle plate numbers will take effect in 2022. Director of the Police Traffic Corps Regiment, Brigadier General Drs. Yusri Yunus said that the chip would be installed on the vehicle plate number of cars and motorcycles. This step was taken to push the implementation of ETLE.

“The chip will be installed inside the plate number and there will be some kind of data from the owner,” said Brigadier General Yusri Yunus.

The existence of this chip will also make the Police much easier in handling traffic violations, thanks to the evidence tracked by the chip. Moreover, the chip is expected to be used in the electronic parking payment system.

“In the future, we expected a lot from this chip because this technology is super useful. Later, the chip will contain personal vehicle data, and also the violation evidence, and so forth. Eventually, the chip could be used to pay E-toll or E-parking,” adds Drs. Yusri Yunus.

This technology uses RFID, which can identify and retrieve data using a barcode or magnetic card.

The identification method uses an RFID label which functions to store and retrieve data remotely, report Bakti Kominfo.

The RFID label can be installed through a product, animals, even humans. The identification process can occur using electromagnetic waves. Therefore, RFID identification requires two devices, a tag and a reader.
