In addition, the Air and Water Police of Riau Regional Police also arrested two perpetrators, ME (33) and H (20), who was allegedly responsible for the illegal timber ownership.
Director of the Air and Water Police of Riau Regional Police, Police Grand Commissioner Eko Irianto revealed the chronology of two perpetrators of illegal logging arrests in Meranti Islands Regency.
"Monday, September 13th, Vessel 1003 and Vessel 1004 conducted routine patrols in the waters of Tanjung Klemin, Padang Island, Meranti Islands Regency," said the Director of the Air and Water Police of Riau Regional Police in a statement released on Wednesday (15/9/21).
Officers found one unit of a motorboat sailing in the waters of Padang Island.
"When checked, the motorboat was pulling wood from illegal logging in the forest," he said.
The wood is 11 rafts of meranti processed wood and is not equipped with legal documents.
"Based on the information from the broker (Tekong) of the motorboat, the owner of the Meranti type processed wood pulled by the motorboat is Brother B, whose address is at Bengkalis Regency,"
"The processed wood of the Meranti type was withdrawn in an assembled form from Sei Raya, Padang Island and will be brought to Temberan, Bengkalis Regency for sale," explained the Director of the Air and Water Police of Riau Regional Police.
The perpetrator is suspected of Article 83 paragraph (1) letter b in conjunction with Article 12 letter e of the Republic of Indonesia Law Number 18 of 2013 concerning Prevention and Eradication of Forest Destruction as amended by Law of the Republic of Indonesia Number 11 of 2020 concerning Job Creation.
