Tribratanews.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Chairman of the Indonesian Common Funding Fintech Association (AFPI) appreciated and supported measures of the Indonesian National Police, led by Police General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, who Instructs all his personnel to punish illegal online loans platform, which has been harmed the people.
"AFPI appreciated the recent measures conducted towards the illegal online loans by the Indonesian National Police. These measures are expected to create calm in public, which has been anxious by high interest, harsh and unethical billing, and private data misappropriation by the illegal online loans", the Chairman of AFPI said through his statement.
Furthermore, as a form of commitment and support of the association towards the eradication of illegal loans and related to enforcement conducted by the Police forces, on October 15, 2021, AFPI has suspended the membership of Indo Tekno Nusantara Ltd as the member associate of billing agent category because it served illegal online loans billing.
Now, the members under the AFPI are 106 common funding financial technology companies and 43 member associates of the fintech ecosystem, including billing service providers. One of the tasks of AFPI is to ensure all members working in accordance with behavioural guidance determined by the association and registered and permitted by Financial Service Authority (OJK). If there are violations found, AFPI would firmly impose sanctions.
With the discovery of Indo Tekno Nusantara Ltd, AFPI would be more intense in inspecting the members, mainly the ones affiliated with illegal online loans. According to AFPI data, in 2021, there have been 3,747 public complaints on illegal online loans, in which most of the reports are unethical billings.
AFPI deemed that the rampant illegal online loans platform is caused by several factors such as easiness in creating application/website, low literacy of the public in accessing financial services such as minimum legality check, ease to be lured by quick and large loans, disobedient customers, not enough income, and financing gap.
"AFPI as a place for P2P lending or common funding fintech advised people to avoid the illegal loans trap by knowing its characteristics such as unregistered in OJK, unclear interest offer and loan time, not credible online loans website, and requesting excessive private data access", Chairman of AFPI said.
