Polda Sumsel Warned The Owners of Illegal Firearms to Submit the Weapons Voluntarily

inp.polri.go.id - Sumsel. The South Sumatra Regional Police (Polda Sumsel) appealed to the public in 17 districts/cities in South Sumatra Province who own or store homemade or illegal firearms (senpi) to hand them over to the police. To create a conducive situation the security and public order, crimes, especially those using illegal weapons, must be suppressed.

"From February 14, 2022, to March 1, an operation to control illegal firearms will be held. For those who store or have homemade or factory-made firearms without a permit/illegal are urged to immediately submit the items voluntarily to the authorities," said Head of Public Relations (Kabid Humas) of Polda Sumsel, Commissioner Supriadi in Palembang City, Thursday (24/02/22).

On the other hand, he adds, if illegal weapons owned by the community are caught by the police in control operation, they will be subject to a violation of the Emergency Law (UU) with criminal sanctions of the death penalty, life imprisonment, or 20 years imprisonment.

In a police operation codenamed 'Operation Senpi Musi 2022', a number of Polres managed to secure dozens of short and long-barreled rifles from the public.

Musi Rawas Police Chief (Kapolres), AKBP Achmad Gusti Hartono stated, in the first week of the 2022 Musi Senpi Operations, his staff managed to secure 17 homemade rifles along with dozens of ammunition.

Kapolres Musi Rawas explained that the dozens of illegal firearms consisted of 14 long barrels and three short barrels.

"The weapons were secured from criminals who were included in the target list of operations (TO) and from non-TO communities," concluded AKBP Achmad Gusti Hartono.
