Tribratanews.polri.go.id - Papua. Yahukimo Departmental Police arrested 52 people on Sunday (3/10/2021). Those people are suspiciously related to attack towards Yali tribe in Yahukimo regency, Papua.
"At 12.50, Departmental Police personnel received information from the people that there had been an attack towards Yali tribe people", the Chief of PR and Press Agency of Papua Regional Police, Police Grand Commissioner Ahmad Musthofa Kamal, said on Sunday (3/10/2021).
The attack was started at 12.45 on the Dekai district of Yahukimo regency by the people of the Kimyal tribe. All 52 people are now under intensive interrogation by the investigators of Yahukimo Departmental Police. The people are still taking refuge in the Yahukimo Departmental Police Headquarter.
Joint forces of Armed Forces-Police is still patrolling and securing mass gathering locations to prevent unwanted incidents that could disturb security stability in the Yahukimo regency.
The attack was suspected started by the sorrowful news received by the Kimyal tribe regarding the death of former Yahukimo regent Abock Busup.
Chief of PR and Press Agency of Papua Regional Police stated the attack chronology by the Kimyal tribe. The attack started with the arrival of the mass from the Kimyal tribe, led by their chieftain Morome Keya Busup, into the Yali tribe area.
Yahukimo Departmental Police deployed 20 personnel. Chief of PR and Press Agency of Papua Regional Police stated that the mass was successfully driven away.
However, the mass relaunched the attack towards the Yali tribe in the Nuri hotel and burned the hotel. The driven-off mass then went to the Sekla Complex of Gunung street and burned several houses of the Yali tribe.
"At 13.40, the Chief of Departmental Police, together with the Armed Forces-Police personnel, moved from Nuri hotel to the Sekla complex to disperse the people who conducted arson", the Chief of PR and Press Agency of Papua Regional Police, Police Grand Commissioner Ahmad Musthofa Kamal, said.
Due to the attack, one person named Yaset Yahuli died, and ten people were seriously injured due to being hit by arrows.
