National Police: No Criminalisation in the Arrest of Farid Okbah

National Police affirms that there is no criminalisation against everyone in arresting three terrorist suspects: Farid Okbah, Ahmad Zain An-Najah, and Anung Al-Hamad. Three of them were arrested by Counterterrorism Special Detachment 88 (Densus 88) of the Indonesian National Police on Tuesday (16/11/21).

Chief of General Information Bureau of the PR Division of Indonesian National Police, Police Brigadier General Rusdi Hartono, said that the arrest of the terrorist suspects was conducted through a lengthy process by investigating and learning terrorist networks in Indonesia. "Police's measures conducted by Densus 88 is not a form of criminalisation towards everyone. Once again, I affirmed that measures conducted by the Densus 88 has no effort of criminalisation", Chief of General Information Bureau said on Wednesday (17/11/21).

Police Brigadier General Rusdi Hartono also stated that National Police is given authority to handle terrorism in Indonesia. Densus is indeed cooperated with several approaches to understand the terrorist network. "First, through its fundings, and then its people movement in the organisation. It is indeed that what Densus did is a lengthy process, not an incidental process, and also the results of long profiling and surveillance", Chief of General Information Bureau said.

Previously, Densus 88 arrested three terrorist suspects which are Ustaz Fariq Okbah, Ahmad Zain An-Najah, and Anung Al-Hamad, in Bekasi. They are suspected to involve in the Jamaah Islamiyah (JI) network.
