The Minister of Home Affairs (Mendagri) Tito Karnavian hopes that the International Association of Women Police (IAWP) can encourage the role of female police officers (polwan) on the police stage.
We hope that the IAWP will become a driving force for gender equality in all people's lives because there are still many countries where the role of women has not been fully recognized, Tito said when stating to reporters at the Meruorah Hotel Labuan Bajo, East Nusa Tenggara, Monday.
He said the police have an essential role in social life, namely maintaining order, security, law enforcement, and other roles for the community.
Therefore, policewomen have to prove themselves as a driving force for the role of women for gender equality, especially in countries where gender justice is not yet visible.
Women can implement gender equality so that women are considered a supporting element and become a central point that can play an essential role in various aspects.
Tito said the number of policewomen in Indonesia was still limited. Therefore, he hopes that the number of policewomen in Indonesia can be increased.
He said policewomen could carry out the same work and programs as male police, including physical and dangerous tasks. However, he also saw that there were tasks that policewomen felt better to do than male police officers.
"Policewomen should not only move around the point of the police stage but play an important role at the centre of the police stage," said Tito.
