Tribratanews.polri.go.id - Pekanbaru. The joint team from the Directorate of Special Criminal Investigation of Riau Regional Police, Riau Conservation of Natural Resources Main Office, and Office of Law Enforcement Region Section 2 of Sumatra Region arrested the traffickers of Sumatran tiger skin.
The perpetrators were arrested in a gas station in Simpang Kubang, Siak Hulu District, Kampar Regency, on Friday morning (24/09/2021).
Four arrested people are MY, a 48 y.o. housewife, SY, a 62 y.o. traditional dentist, SH, a 48 y.o. entrepreneur, and RS, a 50 y.o. entrepreneur. All of them are from West Sumatra. MY is suspected as the collector of the tiger's skin, which was caught using a noose.
Chief of PR and Press Agency of Riau Regional Police, Police Grand Commissioner Sunarto, said that the arrest comes from information received on September 18, 2021, regarding the organ transaction from the protected animals, which is the Sumatran tiger skin. From the initial report, Police then collected the statement materials.
"For a week, the team deeply investigated the information to Dharmasraya, West Sumatra", the Chief of PR and Press Agency of Riau Regional Police said.
And then, on Thursday (23/09/2021), the team successfully confirm the Sumatra tiger skin transaction process in Pekanbaru city. This morning, at 6.30 a.m., the perpetrators are arrested along with the evidence of one sheet of Sumatran tiger skin.
"The perpetrator admitted that the skin would be sold to the buyers for Rp30-50 million. For now, the perpetrators and evidence are secured for further investigation", he said.
Chief of PR and Press Agency of Riau Regional Police added that the suspects are threatened by the offence of storing or owning skin or other body parts of the protected animals, as stated by Article 21 paragraph 2 letter d, and Article 40 paragraph 2 of Law Nom 5 of 1990 about Natural Resources and its Ecosystem. "That everyone cannot trade, store, or own the skin, body, or other parts of protected animals or the goods made from the said body parts or issuing from a place in or out of Indonesia", he concluded.
